The Wife(2017)
Filmed in Glasgow in November 2016, this Dramatic feature stars none other than Hollywood legend Glenn Close in her most acclaimed performance ever. 'The Wife' tells the harrowing story of a woman who travels to Stockholm with her narcissistic husband to see him receive the Nobel Prize in literature, an award which should be rightfully given to her. Under the Skin(2013)
Scarlett Johansson stars in this science-fiction drama film which tells the story of an otherworldly woman who prays on men in Scotland. This film was filmed particularly in Glasgow but filming also took place in Tantallon Castle, East Lothian and a now defunct nightclub in West Lothian. 1917(2019)
This upcoming war epic will be released on Christmas day of this year. The film is based in part on an account told to director Sam Mendes by his paternal grandfather, Alfred. Shot in the Govan area of Glasgow, '1917' tells the story of two brothers at war who are given an impossible task at the height of world war one. Given the success of Sam Mendes' previous work, this film is heavily anticipated and looks to be a major contender at the upcoming Academy Awards. From Russia with Love(1963)
The Second installment of the legendary 'James Bond' series starring Sean Connery was filmed majorly in Scotland. Areas such as Argyll were used in this classic to film scenes such as the iconic truck ride and the climactic boat journey. 'From Russia with Love' continues the story from the James Bond premiere 'Dr. No' in which special agent 'SPECTRE' was murdered in Jamaica. This film inspired James Bond film-makers to use Scotland as a main filming location for later films in the saga such as 1977's 'The Spy Who Loved Me',1999's 'The World Is Not Enough', and 2012's 'Skyfall'. The Da Vinci Code(2006)
This classic film made controversy for its portrayal of the Roman Catholic Church, however still managed to gross nearly £600 million at the worldwide box office. Ron Howards 'The Da Vinci Code' documents a fictional murder in Paris' Louvre Museum where Leonardo Da Vinci's paintings hold the encrypted killer clues. The illustrious list of settings in this film range from the Louvre to Rosslyn Chapel in Roslin, Mid Lothian. Speaking of the gorgeous chapel the films star Tom Hanks said 'Few locations in film are so delightful and few destinations live up to their billing, but Rosslyn Chapel was all one could imagine or hope for.'
